Digital Group Getting Started with CNC

Setting Up for CNC

In November 2016 we held two online sessions covering the initial setup and configuration of Mach3 for a typical router/mill machine, and an introduction to the electronic building blocks that sit between Mach3 and the machine itself. Recordings of these sessions are available to all SMEE members via the links below. If you would like to see further sessions on these or similar topics, and particularly if you have suggestions for areas that we could cover in more detail, please add a comment below.

(Due to a minor problem with AnyMeeting during the live presentation, a couple of slides are slow to appear on the screen. However, the audio track is complete, and there is no significant information missing).

Concept to Cutting

This is a short series of talks which takes the viewer step by step through the process of designing a simple component using CAD, converting it to gcode using CAM, setting up the CNC machine and material, and making the cut. The presenters used a mix of different software tools and CNC machines to illustrate the techniques; while the basic principles stay the same the actual way of doing things can vary and this will give viewers an opportunity to see a variety of tools and techniques. The talks are illustrated with real-time demonstrations of software as well as video and still photo views of the work in progress on different machines.
