Talk: BT Global Challenge: The World’s Toughest Yacht Race

Helen was an ordinary Ward Sister in the NHS when, in 1996, she embarked on an extraordinary adventure! She was a crew member on Nuclear Electric, one of the yachts taking part in the BT Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race. With only limited sailing experience she had much to learn before setting off. For almost a year she experienced the highs and the lows of ocean sailing, from the calms of the Doldrums to wild seas in the Southern Ocean, enjoying 5 ports of call and making life -long friendships.
